Independent Living

Otsego Academy is located at Pathfinder Village, a 300-acre planned community supporting individuals with Down syndrome and other intellectual disabilities. Here, community members enjoy a culture conducive to independence, friendships, and personal success. Since its inception over 30 years ago, Pathfinder Village continues to be a progressive and sustainable community.

Academy students live in a beautiful colonial home and enjoy on-campus amenities such as a gymnasium, community nature trails, art studio, soccer field, and café.

In addition, the lovely village of Cooperstown is only 15 miles away and offers many enjoyable social and wellness opportunities for our students to explore and engage with.

Housing

Student housing is centrally located in Pathfinder Village. In a family-style setting, students share responsibilities for managing a shared living environment. Academy staff are present to support and facilitate independence in a way that is uniquely tailored to each student's needs and personal growth goals.

Arts and Recreation

Academy students choose from a host of campus-based activities and clubs including art, music, sports, and yoga. Students frequently travel off campus for swimming, bowling, movies, and other leisure activities, providing a well-rounded and engaging social calendar.

We didn't know what Theresa was going to do when she graduated high school. We hoped and dreamed the same things we did for our other children — that she'd become independent and find a job, grow up and have friends and be happy. I wasn't sure how she would adjust at Otsego Academy. She had never been away from us, so this was pretty huge.

Otsego Academy did an amazing job of orientation, having the students get to know each other during the summer. Now, Theresa is very independent. This is the perfect place for her to learn and be safe, and find a job that is fulfilling and challenging.
