About Pathfinder Village

Pathfinder Village is a friendly, pristine, and welcoming community where people with Down syndrome and other intellectual and developmental disabilities discover their own value and talents.

Here, residents are valued for their abilities and contributions. In our open, early American-style Colonial village, individuals are encouraged to choose friends, develop goals, and participate actively in the vibrant life of our entire region. We support individuals as they grow in independence, develop their unique talents, and discover interests both within the Village and in our surrounding regional communities.

By cultivating strong relationships with local colleges, businesses, families, and neighbors, we continually create new opportunities for our residents and ensure the sustainability of our innovative programs. With individuals joining us from across the country and around the world, Pathfinder Village does more than provide a nurturing home—we bring diversity, national recognition, and shared vitality to Edmeston, New York, and the surrounding region.

Our mission shapes everything we do.

Our History & Legacy

Thank You Residents

Our roots trace back to 1922 when two nurses opened the Otsego School in Edmeston, New York, as a two-building school providing a caring, positive environment for children with Down syndrome.

Pathfinder Village's evolution into the planned community it is today was the life’s work of former Executive Director Marian Mullet. She envisioned a free environment where people could come and go at will, where neighborliness counted, and where individuals didn't have to ask permission to simply live their lives.

Today, Pathfinder Village is a 300-acre not-for-profit organization and a national leader in community-based services. Our campus includes a private school, summer camp, on-site businesses providing vocational opportunities, enhanced clinical services, and the Kennedy Willis Center on Down syndrome. With the introduction of Otsego Academy and our new Farmstead Market & Community Center, we continue to broaden our circle, bringing diversity, national recognition, and economic growth to the region.
